War God

by Small Town Alien

about

This album was inspired by the "War God" book series, written by Graham Hancock, which tells the fictionalised tale of the Conquest of Mexico.

From 1519 - 1521, the brilliant and brutal "caldeo" Hernan Cortes and his army of roughly 500 Spanish conquistadores discovered and brought an end to the vast and complex Mexica (Aztec) Empire in the Valley of Mexico. As a historical event, its significance was seismic, and its reverberations can still be felt around the globe. As a fictionalised story, it contains all the essential elements of a classic adventure novel: action, suspense, romance, betrayal, honour, mystery, a slew of colourful characters and good ol' fashioned blood and guts.

The album doesn't tell the story in the way the book does - logically and chronologically - but rather tries to capture the grandiose emotions that lie at the heart of this epic saga.
